Self-care refers to the ways that we fill our cups so that we have enough physical and mental energy to take care of our responsibilities.
Unfortunately, a lot of the suggestions we get about improving our lives require us to spend a lot of time and money on things we don’t actually need to survive, like the spa or international vacations.
I have definitely fallen into that trap, and more recently than I’d like to admit. It’s a lot of fun to spend that kind of money and time on yourself!
But it’s not sustainable or practical in the long run. Small and quick practices are more likely to turn into habits, therefore improving your overall quality of life.
Next time you’re stressed and need a quick pick-me-up, try listening to your favorite song, making yourself a tea, or speaking kindly to yourself.
Definitely save up for that vacation and spa day! And in the meantime, live the life you’re in as well as you can. It’s the only one you get.
