The goal of the human body is to survive, not to make you happy.
Happiness is great and all, but it has very little to do with seeing another sunrise. At least, according to your nervous system.
When we enter threatening situations, we often have to abandon what might be in our best psychological interest to ensure that we live to see another day.
Biology wins in pretty much every fight… Happiness and satisfaction can’t hold a candle to your body’s need to stay alive.
Our choices become limited as we move towards the biological goal of staying alive and remaining as safe as possible.
All behavior serves some kind of purpose. Once you come to terms with this reality, you can start working with your body instead of against it.
You’re not a bad person for the things that you did when you didn’t know what else to do.
When you’re ready to heal, healing is ready for you.
Intentionally moving slowly throughout your day, spending time in nature, or reaching out to a trauma trained therapist, like those at Building Hope, are great places to start.
Happy Healing. I’m so glad that you’re here.
