Let this post be the sign from the Universe that you needed today – It’s time for a movement break.
We live in bodies that require movement to release pent-up energy and emotions, but we live in a world that encourages us to sit down, stay still, and not feel anything too deeply, lest we burn it all to the ground in a rage fueled by never-ending injustice and pain.
The movement break doesn’t have to be a lot. You don’t need to get to the gym or a yoga class, unless, of course, that’s what you want to do today.
You don’t even need to put different shoes on or leave the room that you’re currently in.
Start by wiggling your toes or your fingers. See what your body wants to do from there.
Stretch or dance…
Breathe or walk…
Bounce or shake…
Just move!
Even just a few seconds or minutes of movement can offer you some physical, emotional, and mental relief today.
Sure, there are scientific and evidenced-based suggestions to make the most out of your movement, but I’m starting to find that humans make things way too complicated.
Done is better than perfect.
If the perfect way to move is stopping you from moving at all, then it’s not that perfect at all, now is it?
It’s not about what you “should” do. It’s not about self-improvement or growing or being a better anything.
Take a movement break because you deserve it.
You deserve a softer life, and softer lives start with softer moments.
The greatest resistance to a society that requires you to hustle, move, make, sell, buy, and never ever stop is to rest.
Listening to your body and offering gentle, somatic movement is a pathway to true rest and reset.
You don’t need to go harder, do more, or add anything else to your to do list.
Just be.
Today, I choose to listen to my body. I choose to move and rest, I choose to breathe and be.
Will you join me?
